About biodynamic food
Predating the term “organic agriculture”, biodynamic agriculture
was pioneered by the Austrian Rudolph Steiner in the 1920s. Steiner
realised that synthetic fertilisers and other chemicals were harming
food production.
He also believed that there was a whole other realm
not being utilised in farming – that of the cosmos – and
this would be key to enlivening our food, our lives, and our planet.
Steiner, influenced by Buddhism, Hinduism and Vedic scriptures, drew
on their ideas as he formulated his own theories on medicine, education
and agriculture. Biodynamic farmers utilise a variety of practices, most
of which are guided by a planting calendar based on the sidereal zodiac.
